You mentioned in one of your previous answers old style vs. new style splined (Dura-Ace) BB. My bike is about four years old with moderate use.  I have been unable to stop the creaking on my 5500 Trek. I’ve done all the “tricks” (plumber tape, rechecked and re-greased, etc. Would the newer style help with this and do they spin better?

It might. No promises., though. I don’t think the new ones spin any better initially, but over timethey probably do since they are sealed better.
