FOX Racing will produce two commemorative suspension components — a special 40 RC2 fork and DHX RC4 shock — based on development that netted championship titles in men’s and women’s downhill worlds in 2009. Only 200 of each will be produced for consumers.
In June, at Val di Sole, Italy, the sister and brother duo Rachel and Gee Atherton (Animal-Commencal) made history by riding to victories in their respective World Championship Downhill races. Both athletes used Fox’s 40 RC2 and DHX RC4 suspension components. Fox’s World Championship Limited Edition 40 RC2 Fork and DHX RC4 Rear Shock will be available for sale this December.
The 40 RC2 limited edition fork will be sold with the same damping that the Athertons and other Fox sponsored athletes tested, tuned and won with throughout the 2008 season. The World Cup tune provides performance characteristics designed specifically for the highest level of competition. The fork comes with stiffer titanium springs than the standard 2009 production models, among other changes. Fox Race Manager Mark Fitzsimmons tested with Fox’s top downhillers throughout the season to tune both the fork and shock. “The harder these products are ridden, the more rewarding the ride becomes,” he said.
The DHX RC4 rear shock is new from the ground up. It’s purpose built and specifically engineered to meet the demands of the world’s toughest downhill courses and the athletes riding them. External adjustments for velocity-sensitive damping and position-sensitive end-stroke control act independently allowing a rider to dial in the perfect balance of small bump compliance/traction, dynamic control, and big hit absorption.
“These limited edition products are the culmination of hundreds of hours of testing and working with our engineers, race support team and athletes. Our race program is not just a marketing effort, we work year round with the world’s best athletes to develop and improve our products so that we can win championships and ultimately deliver those products to the end consumer that are best in class,” said Mario Galasso, the vice president of Fox’s bike division.
The $1800 40RC2 fork and $600 DHX RC4 rear shock will be shipped with trading cards of Rachel and Gee with their stats, as well as videos of their winning runs on the Limited Edition owner’s manual CD. The Limited Edition components even include tuning decals to keep track of the owner’s preferred settings.
