Falling Canadian dollar saves TransRockies racers money

In the seven years since the TransRockies began, it has quickly become a great aspiration for many mountain bikers. We’re proud that it is on so many riders’ to-do lists and we’re stoked every time we hear someone tell us “next year I’ll do TransRockies”. And we hear that a lot!
With the new looming on the horizon, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that next year is NOW! We know that it’s a big commitment: it take training, time off work, permission from spouses and partners, and overcoming inertia, but there’s never a time like the present to sign up for the experience of a lifetime.
In 2009, we can offer a large number of our riders yet another great benefit when they sign up for the event—a big discount over the last couple of years created by fluctuations in the value of the Canadian dollar (we like to call it the “loonie”, you’ll understand when you get here). As world commodity prices have fallen, so has the loonie—against both the US Dollar and the Euro. After hovering around par for most of the last year, the loonie’s slide means that the US Dollar is now worth over $1.20 Canadian while the Euro has also gained significantly, around 15% at the time of writing.
What does this mean for you? Well, if you’re from the US or the Euro zone, it means hundreds of dollars per person savings on a TransRockies team entry! it’s cheaper than ever to be part of one of the World’s great adventures and be fully supported through seven epic days of riding.
Beyond the entry fee, the great thing about the lower dollar is that it applies to every aspect of your trip:
• Hotel rooms if you’re staying the night before and after the event
• RV rental if you’d prefer not to sleep in a tent
• Airline flights to Calgary thanks to the lower Canadian dollar and the end of fuel surcharges within North America
We here at TransRockies are no experts in future exchange rates, but we do know that right now, anyone paying in Euros or US Dollars to sign up for TransRockies will get the adventure of a lifetime at a significantly reduced price from past years.
We can’t tell you if the Canadian dollar will continue to fall, or start to climb again. Either way, we process your payment in Canadian Dollars at the current exchange rate for the day. To check the latest exchange rates, visit www.xe.com.
