The Zipp OVCX Tour incorporates the Ohio State Championships when it travels to suburban Columbus on Sunday, November 23.  The Cap City Cross will be held in Upper Arlington, a suburb of Ohio’s capital city of Columbus.

Held under new management this year, the Cap City Cross / Ohio State Championships is being held as an “open” event.  The top placing Ohio riders in each division will receive accolades as 2008 State Champions.  Meanwhile, all riders, regardless of their residence, will be competing to improve their standings in the Zipp OVCX Tour and Cap City Series points tables.  The course set in Lane Road Park features numerous short, punchy hills and an uphill finish.

Cyclocross racing in the Ohio Valley, and especially at the Zipp OCVX Tour events, has seen unprecedented growth this season.  Shops in the region reported selling out of all cyclocross equipment as early as last July in anticipation of the season and every event on the Tour has seen record entries, with several races more than doubling previous attendance records.  Sunday’s Cap City Cross will be the first state cyclocross championships held under the new paradigm where cyclocross is now rivaling, or even exceeding the popularity of road and mountain bike racing in the area.  That should make these will be the most seriously contested state cyclocross champions ever held in Ohio, a state that is home to more than 11.5 million people.
