The BikeReg.com MABRAcross series travels to Leesburg Virginia this Sunday, November 23, for the penultimate round of its most successful season ever. The Tacchino Ciclocross is held annually near the Thanksgiving holiday at the stunning Ida-Lee Park. The park, located just blocks away from the center of Leesburg’s historic old section, is a top-notch modern recreation facility with a panoramic view of the Catoctin Mountain range.
The event is organized by Squadra Coppi, a club named in the honor of Italian cycling legend Fausto Coppi. The well-respected organization is a modern racing club in every respect, but has the charming tradition of naming all of their promotions in Italian, in keeping with Coppi theme. “Tacchino Cicliocross” translates to “Turkey Cyclocross” and was so named because it is usually held near the American Thanksgiving holiday feast known that traditionally features a roast turkey.
This year, the organizers have upgraded the already well-regarded Ida-Lee course with additional sections of pavement and gravel added to the high-speed elevation changes that the course has become known for. The organizers have also modernized the purse with fully equal prize purses for both men and women thanks to new sponsor Resource Dynamics Corporation.
