American Olympian Georgia Gould (Luna) has her eyes on the 2009 UCI world cyclocross championships, held January 31-February 1 in Hoogerheide, the Netherlands.

The 28-year-old Gould, who finished eighth in cross-country mountain biking at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, announced her intentions to race cyclocross’ biggest race on her Web site.

“I will race in two World Cups and hopefully a few other big races as well,” Gould wrote on her site. “Then I will come back to the States for a few weeks, train my butt off and head back to Europe for the Cyclocross World Championships.”

Gould, who took the Crankbrothers U.S. Gran Prix of Cyclocross overall in 2007 and finished second this year, had previously skipped cyclocross worlds to prepare for her upcoming campaign on the mountain bike.

But with the Olympics behind her, Gould said she has no problem stretching her season out an extra month. Gould began racing cyclocross in 2005. This will be her first foray into European cyclocross racing.

“I’ve wanted to race ‘cross in Europe for a few years now, but I have been holding off,” Gould wrote.
