MILRAM newcomer Paul Voß had a perfect season debut on Sunday in the cyclo-cross race in Vechta. The 22-year-old ‘cross specalist from Rostock, who last year won the silver medal in the U23 road world championships as his biggest success to date, brought in the first season win for his new team.
The German youngster, who this season transferred from the Continental Team 3C-Gruppe to the Dortmund-based ProTour team, beat his rival Christoph Pfingsten (KED Bianchi Term Berlin) by some 30 seconds after a solo ride on the 2.1 kilometer long circuit at the Vechta Reiterwaldstadion. Third was the former German ‘cross champion Johannes Sickmüller (Stevens).
“I am very proud of my first win in my first race for Team MILRAM,” said the overjoyed winner. “The last races in the old year didn’t work out so well. So after the third of ten laps I simply wanted to test my form. When I noticed that after my attack my lead was big enough, I just rode my own tempo and could take the win.”
Gerry van Gerwen, team manager of the only German ProTour team, was happy with the successful season-opener. “We hired Paul Voß for the ‘cross season, in order to have him for the whole year for Team MILRAM. That just makes me all the happier about this first season win,” said Gerry van Gerwen, who also trusts Paul Voß to make an equally successful development on the roard.
