New from the Crankbrothers production line: the all-mountain Iodine wheelset.

Instead of drilling spoke holes through the rim, which inevitably weakens the structure as a whole, Crankbrothers machined vertical ribs along the inside of the rim as a place for the spokes to be attached. The spoke nipples are moved away from rim and instead are elongated from the hub and attach to the spokes, meeting each other halfway. Crankbrothers suggests that this new nipple placement simplifies truing and optimizes wheel stiffness. Finally, Crankbrothers’ “twinpair” spoke design creates balanced tension and allows for a low dish.

Crankbrothers suggests that their new split quick release lever allows for a more secure, and simplified two-stage closure and release. The rear hub has an oversized, 25mm axle that is better suited for the impact of fast, rocky descents. The Iodine wheelset only allows for disc brakes, and the burnt orange rims are tubeless compatible. Crankbrothers recommends a tire size of 2.3 to 2.5.
