Filippo Pozzato (Katusha) got the big win he was looking for with victory in the E3 Prijs Harelbeke on Saturday.

Considered a preview for next weekend’s Tour of Flanders, the Italian out-kicked Tom Boonen (Quick Step) to win by a bike length. Maxim Iglinskiy (Astana) came in third to round out the podium.

“I’m very happy to win. The legs were good coming into Milan-San Remo and Flanders, so I was looking for a big win. Today is similar to Flanders and to beat Tom Boonen is never easy,” Pozzato said. “Quick Step and Rabobank are strong for Flanders. My top favorite for Flanders is Boonen.”

Boonen attacked out of a lead group with about 25km to go, with Pozzato marking his wheel. Iglinsky followed and the trio worked together to open up a decisive 50-second gap with 10km to go.
