Rockstar Games Presents the 36th Annual David Walker Memorial Cycling Classic
New York, NY — Rockstar Games is the new presenting sponsor of the venerated Skyscraper Harlem Cycling Classic, it was announced today. The 36th anniversary edition will be be held on its traditional Father’s Day date, Sunday, June 21st, at Marcus Garvey Park in New York City.
The race will be in memorial of the event founder, David Walker, (Det. Sgt. Ret. NYDP) who passed away in July of 2008. In 1973 Mr. Walker started a children’s bicycle safety program for children, which quickly became the Skyscraper, the oldest and most prestigious cycling race New York City.
The classic .75-mile, four-corner criterium (or short-course cycling event) course has always thrilled its audiences with exciting performances from world-class cyclists. George Hincapie, famed Australian 6-Day rider Danny Clark, and World Professional Pursuit Champion Mike McCarthy have all won in Harlem.
Rockstar Games will be at the event with exclusive Rockstar Games branded merchandise, including t-shirts, hats, stickers, and more.??
The event has always mixed community service with high-level professional racing. For 35-years, Mr. Walker gave away bicycles to winners of the children’s races that kick off the day’s activities at 12:00 noon. His great tradition will be continued this year and into the future.
