The 2010 edition of the Critérium International will be held on the island of Corsica on March 27 and 28, the organizer announced Thursday.

To be based in the city of Porto-Vecchio, the 2010 edition represents the first time the three-stage race will be held on Corsica, a territorial collective of France.

The decision by the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) comes on the heels of Corsica’s recent application to serve as the starting point of the 2013 Tour de France. Tour director Christian Prudhomme led an ASO delegation to Corsica in October to study the feasibility of designating the island’s as the Tour’s grande departé in 2013. Thursday’s decision could be an indication that the island’s application is being considered in a positive light.

Full details of the 79th edition of the Critérium International will be announced in early February.
