Canada’s reigning U-23 champ Emily Batty will join Mathias and Lukas Flueckiger as Trek World Racing’s cross-country contingent for the 2010 season.

Batty, who turns 22 in June, raced the past two seasons for Trek Store Toronto. Along with her U-23 national cross-country victory, she posted strong results in 2009, including winning the elite Sea Otter Classic short-track and a top-ten at the Offenburg World Cup in Germany.

“I’m so excited to be taking this next step in my racing career,” Batty said in a release. “I have been so well supported by Trek Store Toronto and without them I wouldn’t have been in the position to make this progression.”

For 2010, Batty will contest some U-23 titles, most notably the World Championships taking place on home soil in September at Mont Ste Anne. Her schedule starts with a Pro XCT race in Fontana, California in March followed later by the Sea Otter Classic, and then a full World Cup schedule. Other events will be the Swiss Bike Trophy Race in Bern in late June, and various Canadian Cup events and National Championships.

“Emily is such a talent,” said Team Director Martin Whiteley. “She impressed me greatly with her ride in Offenburg last year and has endeared herself to fans and media alike all over the world. It’s not often in Women’s XC that relatively young riders show their potential so early in an elite field…”

Batty joins Switzerland’s Flueckiger brothers on Trek World Racing. The team will also have four athletes racing downhill, including American Nico Mulally. With Batty’s signing, the complete team roster is now set for 2010.
