by VeloNews.com

Team Garmin-Transitions and Team HTC-Columbia are auctioning rides in a mechanic’s car during the Spring Classics to benefit the USA Cycling Development Foundation.

Team HTC-Columbia is offering two seats for the Tour of Flanders on April 4th and Team Garmin-Transitions has two seats available for Paris-Roubaix on April 11th.

The auction is now live at http://www.usacdf.org/dfstory.php?id=4660 and will end February 19th.

The highest bidders will get the ride in a team car and an opportunity to meet the riders and stay the night at the team hotels. Winners also will receive autographed team jerseys and other prizes.

“Teams Garmin-Transitions and HTC-Columbia have long been committed to helping develop young American talent,” said Steve Johnson, USA Cycling’s CEO, in a statement. “So we were thrilled when they came to us together with the idea of an auction to benefit USA Cycling’s Development Foundation. To us, it is another example of the top two American teams working as one to continue to benefit the sport.”

  • I wonder if they'll let me change a wheel? I can do it faster than the Mavic car did for Jens last year.

This is a great idea. Hopefully it works well for all the parties involved, and more teams follow the example. I hope UCI and the race organizers agree with it.

Wonder if Garmin will chase down a Columbia break like it did in the Tour (remembering Hincapie) - what fun would that be (in the Garmin vehicle)?
  • This is one of the coolest ways to raise money for US Cycling! You guys rock!
