Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre) took the sprint in Thursday’s third stage of the Giro di Sardegna, ahead of fellow Italians Enrico Rossia dn Jacopo Guarnieri.

Liquigas’ Roman Kreuziger holds the overall lead four seconds ahead of American Chris Horner of RadioShack.

The 206km stage was marked by a long breakaway that included David Gutiérrez (Footon-Servetto-Fuji), Cayetano Sarmiento (Acqua e Sapone), Evgeni Petrov (Katusha), Michael Rasmussen (Miche) and Giairo Ermeti (De Rosa-Stac Plastic). Gutierrez and Ermeti were the last to be reeled in, by Petacchi’s team, with just 6km left in the race.
