For 2010, Team Type 1 will be aboard the Colnago CX-1, done up in a striking white paint job. Founder Phil Southerland believes that the move to the top-flight Italian steeds is another indicator of where the team is headed.
“A big sign of how we’re taking it to the next levels is our partners in the bike world. We’re riding Colnago, and the negotiations around that deal were classic. Ernesto (Colnago)’s hands were flying. Vassili’s hands were flying. It was the typical Italian thing. But they signed with us for two years, and they have that faith in us. They want to see us in the Giro in 2011.”
Team Type 1 will also be on Shimano Dura-Ace 7900, after having renewed with the company for two years.
“Dustin (Brady) at Shimano was instrumental in getting us another two-year partnership. He’s a type 1 diabetic too. It’s a small family out there, but one that really wants to support our own.”
