Yeah, I must admit that's a great shot (pun intended). I can't imagine LA ever doing that but would Alberto "pistol" whip someone like that?

Phil Anderson must have been Bernards' homie. Cause Bernard isn't going to stand for that protestor grabing Phils' arm. Awesome photo. Could even imagine a top Tour contendor unloading on someone like that in clear view of the press today?!

Let's let evolution and industry marketing hype rule, eh? So the next guy who wins LeTour will be riding Specialized's new motorcycle! Those were "evolved" from bicycles as you might recall.

I thought about this when electronic DuraAce was announced. Rider's PHYSICAL effort should be required to shift, steer and brake. Pushing tiny buttons and letting batteries and servo motors do the work is contrary to the ethics of the sport. What's next, a guy riding a motorcycle?

If UCI really wanted to preserve their idiotic definition of pure cyclosport...why don't they just ban crankarms and gears and have the cyclists use their feet to push off the ground. this was the original design of a velocipede...

In response to the final, extremely wordy question/comment. Sounds to me like an over-educated statement against the natural, technical evolution towards cycling performance. Everyone wants the riders to ride clean and not take anything that would give them an unnatural advantage. So naturally the body can improve only so far and some other options would be to increase the performance capabilities of the bike. Then find a way to improve how the bike and rider interact on the bike. Hell we all want that, and I for one would expect the Pros to take it to the highest level. All forward thinking can't be bad or should we fall back into yester-year and resort to old wool jerseys and remove derailers.

They should ban electric dura ace! It sucks! An electronic device used to operate a mechanical machine. no electronics for the opperation of the bike. no qualms with power taps, and other cycling computers but good old cables and clicks should remain standard.

Given that last quote from the UCI, you have to wonder if they'll try to ban electronic Dura Ace. I probably shouldn't give them any ideas.

Meanwhile, Charles Pelkey bangs out yet another fantastic Explainer column. Well done.
