Astana’s Enrico Gasparotto won the fifth stage of Tirreno-Adriatico Sunday, as his teammate Alberto Contador was wrapping up his overall win at Paris-Nice. Gasparotto outsprinted Stefano Garzelli (Acqua & Sapone) for the win. Astana’s Maxim Iglinksy was third and BMC’s Cadel Evans was fourth on the 216-kilometer stage from Chieti to Colmurano.

Race organizers shortened the stage slightly due to weather conditions, removing a difficult final climb.

2009 overall winner Michele Scarpone (Diquigiovanni-Androni) retains the overall lead he took on stage 4, now 10 seconds ahead of Garzelli. The race ends Wednesday.
