Cervelo’s Tondo wins Catalonian third stage, Katusha’s Rodriguez takes lead

Tondo and Rodriguez finished 48 seconds ahead of third place.

Spain’s Xavier Tondo (Cervelo TestTeam) won Wednesday’s third stage of the Tour of Catalonia, a 185.9-kilometre run from La Vall d’En Bas to La Seu d’Urgell in northeastern Spain.

His compatriot Joaquim Rodriguez, who rides for Katusha, took over as overall leader of the event from Germany’s Paul Voss.

Voss, who had led since the opening time trial, finished 2:24 down and fell to 30th place.

Garmin-Transition’s Ryder Hesjedal was the top North American on the stage, in 13th, and is also the top North American on GC, in sixth place at 1:20 back from Rodriguez.
