Not only was Ned Overend a pioneer on mountain bike race courses back in the day, he was able to look into the future to see the need for public access trails.
Because of that, the city council in Durango, Colorado last week officially changed the name of Durango Mountain Park to Overend Mountain Park, according to the Durango Herald. That’s because when the town was purchasing the first 150 acres for the park in 1994, Overend sold 51 acres below market price. The park is now 301 acres.
Durango resident Ed Zink’s “Name it for Ned” campaign was passed unanimously by council members.
