Milram’s Fabian Wegmann, who injured his shoulder in a crash Friday at Tirreno-Adriatico in Italy, underwent surgery near his home in Freiburg, Germany over the weekend.
“The operation yesterday went well and I can start tomorrow with my rehabilitation, it looks like,“ Wegmann said in a team statement. “A crash with an injury is always bad, and in this case, doubly bitter for me. I was in very good form and had plans for the three upcoming Tirreno-Adriatico stages, as well as the next races. Now I can just look forward and get well again soon. If all goes well, I can race again in four to five weeks.”
Milram’s Linus Gerdemann, who won the first stage of Tirreno-Adriatico and led until stage 3, did not start Sunday due to a stomach ailment. Milram’s Johannes Fröhlinger left the race Friday with similar symptoms. Meanwhile,
Quick Step announced Saturday that Italian rider Francesco Reda, who fell on stage 4, had broken his collarbone and has returned to Belgium for treatment.
