Breakaway Promotions, the events company behind the Cherry Blossom, Mt. Hood and Cascade Classics will announce the full route for the 2010 BMC Cascade Cycling Classic next week.

According to Breakaway owner Chad Sperry, the route will include a return to McKenzie Pass, climbing 20-plus miles from the Wilamette Valley to an elevation of 5,325 feet. The lava-strewn slopes of McKenzie have a new layer of blacktop and will reopen this year after a two-year closure for road construction.

“It’s a really gnarly, long, funky climb up a super, super narrow road,” said Sperry. “We’re going to roll that thing back out this year and we’re pretty excited about that.”

Also new for 2010, the race will start with a prologue in the Old Town Mill District, “a really hip, vibrant locale next to the Deschutes River,” said Sperry.

The 2010 BMC Cascade Cycling Classic will take place July 20-25 in Bend, Oregon, and will be part of the National Racing Calendar.
