French cycling ace Sylvain Chavanel has been ruled out of action for two months due to injuries sustained in a crash during Sunday’s Liège-Bastogne-Liège, his Quick Step team announced.
Chavanel suffered a fractured skull and concussion after crashing into another team’s car, which had braked suddenly in front of him at the end of the prestigious one-day classic.
Management has ruled him out of the Tour de France (July 3-25), where he would normally be aiming for a stage win.
Chavanel is still in observation at hospital in Liège where he underwent further tests Monday. He will be transported to a hospital closer to home, near Poitiers, on Tuesday.
A team spokesman said he would not be able to train for at least eight weeks.
