On the eve of the Hell of the North, Christopher Uberti (Panther-Competitive Cyclist) and Rita Klofta took wins in the Hell of Illinois, as they earned top honors at the Hillsboro Roubaix.
In the men’s race, Uberti took out the first bunch sprint in the race’s history over what was left of the peloton after 87 miles of smooth dirt roads and short, steep climbs north of St. Louis, Missouri.
Klofta outsprinted breakaway companions Briana Kovac (Alderfer Bergen) and Rachel Roessingh (ISCorp-Nova Cycle Sports Fundation) for the win in the women¹s elite 58-mile race.
Hillsboro was the first of six Nature Valley Pro Ride events in 2010 and their results qualified Uberti and Klofta for the Nature Valley Cycling Team. The composite amateur team will take part in the Nature Valley Grand Prix June 16-20 in Minnesota.
According to NVPR representative Sean Weide, the riders have 72 hours from the time of their invitation to accept their appointments to the team. Should they accept their invitations, Nature Valley team riders will receive full team support at the event and call-ups at the start of each stage.
The Rock Hill Spring Classic in South Carolina is the second in the series of qualifiers; the two-day omnium closes Sunday with the Winthrop Lake Criterium.
