Katie Compton is best known for her podium-topping exploits aboard a cyclocross bike on the domestic and world stages.

But along with her success on skinny tires, the 31 year old is no slouch when it comes to fat tires. Compton owns a Stars and Stripes jersey in short-track cross-country, represented the U.S. at the 2009 MTB Worlds in Australia and is a threat to win just about any race she enters, like the 2009 Teva Mountain Games cross-country event.

The latter half of the 2009-2010 cyclocross season, however, didn’t go well for the Colorado Springs resident. Chronic leg cramps caused Compton to either DNF or not even start a number of World Cup cyclocross events, including the World Championships in January.

But after a late winter and spring of training, Compton is looking to test her mettle against the best cross-country mountain bike racers in the world at World Cup #3 in Offenburg, Germany on May 22-23. Singletrack.com caught up with Compton the day before she left for Europe to ask a few questions about a lot of things.
