Lance Armstrong expected at Colorado charity ride

The Wapiyapi Classic will be held on Sunday, Sept. 26 in Aspen, Colo., and will feature seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong among other professional cyclists.

Registration for the event will begin on Wednesday, May 26 at 10 a.m. on the organization’s web site, www.wapiyapi.org.

This is the Inaugural Wapiyapi Classic and the ride course includes scenic 25- and 50-mile options, which each start and finish at Paepcke Park.
Registration for the 25-mile course starts at and the 50-mile course starts at with a 0 fundraising requirement for all participants. The registration fees increase to and , respectively on June 15.

Incredible prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers. Top three prizes include a Trek bike, a piece of jewelry worth approximately ,500 from Hadley’s House of Diamonds and a weekend for two in Aspen including hotel, dinner and lift tickets compliments of The Little Nell and Aspen Skiing
Company. The top 20 fundraisers will get the opportunity to start the ride with Lance Armstrong.

Wapiyapi is a Colorado based nonprofit organization that offers a community of hope and support to families affected by childhood cancer. Wapiyapi hosts free summer camps and year-round family retreats to provide a respite for children with cancer and their families.

Wapiyapi was established in 1998 by University of Colorado medical
students in order to help children with cancer. As of 2010, their annual
summer camps and retreats have served over 1,000 children in a safe and
nurturing environment that allows these patients and their families to
understand that they do not face their challenges alone.
