Cervélo TestTeam’s Marcel Wyss, who crashed last Sunday in the GP Gippingen, ruptured the patellar tendon in his left knee and on Wednesday underwent a successful operation, the team announced.

“The surgery went quite well,” said Andreas Goesele, the team’s chief medical officer. “Marcel was transported by the race ambulance to a local hospital after the crash, and they stitched the wound but didn’t realize that he had a rupture. We had him checked today at the Crossklinik in Basel and decided to operate immediately. Marcel will stay there until the weekend, and then his recovery will start. This kind of injury will take a long time to heal.”

Wyss had been on the team’s Tour de Suisse roster, but the Swiss rider is being replaced by Portugal’s João Correia, the team announced.
