Remember that blurb and video back in March about spotting Carl Decker at Sea Otter on a prototype Anthem X 29er? Well, after a long several months, with a few hiccups in production, the big-wheeled version of Giant’s premier endurance bike is finally a go.
We were able to take one for a quick lap in the Nevada desert singletrack, which was just enough time to realize that Giant had accomplished transferring the efficient and predictable Maestro suspension found on the 26-inch Anthem onto a 29-inch chassis. That said, there were no real surprises, good or bad, from our quick test ride.
All the same qualities of the big wheels were present, and the slightly progressive 4-inch Anthem X suspension worked as it always has over the last couple of years, which is to say it’s efficient, stable, and predictable.
Now, if only Giant would get rid of those shallow-swept handlebars….
