“Freeride” is the name of the game at the Red Bull Rampage, but after watching the wipeouts at past events, it’s clear nothin’ comes without a cost.

The 2010 Rampage starts Friday, Oct. 1, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 3, in Virgin, Utah. From 2001 through 2004 the Rampage was held annually, but then shuttered because of rider risk-taking and the ensuing carnage. The event came back for the 2008 season with the introduction of man-made features, as will be the case again in 2010.

The invite-only event has riders starting at one fixed point and then descending 1,500 feet to a set finish using any line they choose. Competitors are judged on their choice of lines, technical ability and their tricks.

Notable names, to name of few, in the 2010 Rampage include Cedric Gracia, Gee Atherton, Kyle Strait and Darren Berrecloth.
