Early Wednesday morning, hundreds of mountain bikers will take off from Jaco on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast with the goal of finishing four days and nearly 250 miles later at Playa Bonita on the Caribbean.

As it has done for the last 18 years, La Ruta de Los Conquistadores will test those who take it on with hellacious climbs, tenacious mud and long days in the saddle. Among the pros looking to dethrone defending champ Manny Prado of Sho-Air Specialized are Cannondale Factory Racing’s Alex Grant and Ben Sontagg; La Ruta rookie Sam Schultz of Subaru Trek; five-time La Ruta champ “Lico” Ramierz; Ismael Ventura of Spain; and Ligia Madrigal of Costa Rica.

So for the next four days make sure to keep your browser dialed to for as much coverage — live or otherwise — as the jungles and mountains of Costa Rica will permit.
