Manuel Belletti (Colnago-CSF Inox) dashed to victory in the third and final stage at the Giro della Provincia di Reggio Calabria in southern Italy on Sunday.
Belletti out-kicked Danilo Napolitano (Acqua e Sapone) in a bunch sprint to wrap up the three-day Italian contest. Sacha Modolo crossed the line third to give Colnago-CSF two of three podium spots on the stage.
Daniele Pietropolli (Lampre-ISD) finished in the main pack to defend the leader’s jersey he first seized with victory in the opening stage.
José Serpa (Androni-Giocattoli) finished second overall at six seconds back, good for his second runner-up finish in two GC races he’s started so far in 2011. The Colombian was second to Marco Arrigada at the Tour de San Luís earlier this month in Argentina. Daniel Oss (Liquigas-Cannondale) rounded out the podium with third at nine seconds back.
The race also marked Ted King’s debut with Liquigas-Cannondale — he finished 40th overall at 7:38 back.
The Italian calendar continues February 5 with the 16th GP Costa degli Etruschi, won for the past six times in a row by Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre-ISD).
