Organizers of Minnesota’s Nature Valley Bicycle Festival have announced details of the stages of the festival’s stage race, the Nature Valley Grand Prix, June 15 to 19.
The organizers also announced that the festival’s track event, the Minnesota Fixed Gear Classic, will be held once again. The track races are being held June 10-12 at the National Sports Center Velodrome in Blaine, Minnesota.
June 15, stage 1 and 2: The National Racing Calendar stage race opens in Saint Paul with both a 6.1-mile morning time trial near Harriet Island Regional Park and an evening criterium held downtown, a block from the Mississippi River. Women race 28 laps and men race 40.
June 16, stage 3: On Thursday, the race moves south to Cannon Falls for road race showcasing the wide open spaces of Minnesota’s heartland and ending with a finish circuit in downtown Cannon Falls. Men and women each race 65 miles, including almost six full finish circuits.
June 17, stage 4: Friday features the evening criterium held in Uptown Minneapolis, a new edition to the race in 2009. Women do 30 laps and men do 40 laps on the short, hilly course.
June 18, stage 5: The fifth stage brought the NVGP outside Minnesota for the first time in its history last year. A hilly road race will finish with four circuits in Menomonie, Wisconsin. Men race 95 miles and women race 76 miles.
June 19, stage 6: The final stage is the Stillwater Criterium. Women do 13 laps and men do 20.
