The U.S. peloton got a boost of good health Wednesday when Kelly Benefit Strategies announced the signing of a new co-title sponsor. Circuit Global Sports Management, the firm behind Continental-registered program, named OptumHealth as a new title sponsor on the opening day of the team’s first training camp of 2011. The team will be titled Kelly Benefit Strategies-OptumHealth Pro Cycling.

“We are pleased to welcome OptumHealth to the team for the 2011 season,” managing director Charles Aaron said in a statement. “We feel that this partnership will help take our team to the next level and continues our goal of partnering with leading brands that have a strong commitment to health and wellness.”

OptumHealth, a health care advocacy and engagement firm, joins Energizer and Schick Asia Pacific, Medifast, Orbea, SRAM and World Bicycle Relief as key sponsors.

“We are unabashedly proud, vocal proponents of active, healthy lifestyles. As co-sponsor of one of the country’s top cycling teams, we can create greater visibility and awareness about the importance of fitness, health and well-being,” Tom McEnery, chief marketing officer for OptumHealth, said in the statement. “Professional cycling in the United States continues to grow as a major spectator sport and serves as a great way to reach health-conscious consumers. This particular partnership provides a highly visible and mission-consistent opportunity to both advance our message and drive awareness of our products and services.”

The announcement is the latest in a string of solid off-season acquisitions for the team. The program’s new recruits for 2011 include former ProTour riders Michael Creed, Jason Donald and Mike Friedman, as well as U.S. criterium champion Daniel Holloway.

Kelly Benefit Strategies-OptumHealth is holding a weeklong camp in the snow near Winter Park, Colorado, this week. Stay tuned to VeloNews.com for reports from the camp.
