PARIS (AFP) – Quebec on Friday withdrew its bid to host the 2015 UCI road world championships.

In a press release, the people behind the bid said they had decided to focus their energies on the September one-day WorldTour races in Montreal and Quebec City.

Organizer Serge Aresenault told Radio Canada that the event would have cost $20 million, an amount that the city of Quebec simply could not afford.

Richmond, Virginia and the Middle East nation of Oman are still bidding to host the 2015 event.
