Spanish team Andalucía-Caja Granada denied reports that it has signed Italian veteran Davide Rebellin, but admitted it talked with the veteran Italian who is looking for a job after serving a doping ban.
Several web sites had reported that the 40-year-old Italian was set to join the Spanish outfit, but the team denied anything is signed in a press communiqué released Monday night.
“Andalucía-Caja Granada denies the news that has appeared in the media about the signing of Davide Rebellin,” the team said. “It’s true that the team has been in contact with him, just as he has been with other teams, but right now there is nothing signed.”
Rebellin recently completed his two-year ban after testing positive for EPO-CERA during the 2008 Olympic Games. Rebellin denied taking the banned substance, but officials stripped him of his silver medal and handed down a ban.
