Organizers of New York’s Tour of the Battenkill road race are planning a series of events to be held this year.
The Great American Cycling Series includes events in New York, Michigan, and Colorado for 2011.
The Battenkill race, held April 10, is the first event of the new series. Michigan’s Tour of Washtenaw next month is the second. Washtenaw, like Battenkill, is a tough, long road race held on paved and unpaved roads.
The next event, the Tour of Vail, in Colorado July 16, is a criterium, and the final event, the Tour of the Catskills, in New York August 5-7, is a stage race.
Organizers said they expect to add events in the Southeast and Northwest for 2012, along with a national sponsor and series prize lists.
