Mountain biking’s sartorial splendor, Gary Fisher, will host the Colorado High School Cycling League CycleFest dinner Saturday, May 14 in Denver, Colorado.

The gathering is a fundraising event that will be attended by Colorado Lt. Governor Joe Garcia in recognition of the league’s alignment with the Colorado Kids Outdoors Initiative. The inaugural 2010 CycleFest dinner raised $25,000 to launch and support the race series, coach training, and associated infrastructure. The 2011 CyleFest fundraising target is $30,000. The first Colorado League season in the Fall of 2010 included a competitive four-race series with almost 200 high school athletes participating.

The annual CycleFest Weekend includes a dinner and silent auction on Saturday, May 14, at Palette’s Restaurant in the Denver Art Museum. Then on Sunday, May 15, Fisher — serves on the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), Board of Directors and is president of The Gary Fisher Collection at TREK Bicycles — will host a bike ride and lunch at Bacaro Venetian Tavern in Boulder, Colorado. Funds raised are important in helping the Colorado league to finance its work of providing mountain biking opportunities for high school students.

“Gary Fisher is a faithful advocate of the NICA high school racing programs. His 2008 visit to Boulder propelled Colorado to be the first league outside of California,” said Kate Rau, executive director of the Colorado High School Cycling League. “We are privileged also that Lt. Governor Garcia is attending. His presence speaks volumes about the state-wide support of this healthy activity for Colorado youth.”
