With team star Robert Gesink preparing for the Tour de France, Rabobank brings a mixed squad of Dutch riders looking to liven up the Giro d’Italia.
The team won’t have a top GC prospect, so it will be looking to attack and get into breakaways in hopes of winning a stage.
Former track rider Theo Bos will have his chances in the sprints, but it won’t be easy in the mountainous Giro route, which only has a handful of stages suited for a mass gallop. Bos continues to struggle getting over the hills to reach the finish line with the front group.
Veterans Peter Wiening and Bram Tankink both have the experience and depth to go in long breakaways while the team brings a handful of younger pros getting their first taste of grand tour racing.
Stef Clement was a late-hour replacement for Tom Leezer and looks to be riding back into form following a nagging hip injury in 2010.
