UnitedHealthcare put two in the top five in Monday’s final stage to finish the Vuelta a Asturias on a high note.

Tino Zaballa (Miche) won the summit finish up the Naranco climb, edging overall champion Javi Moreno (Caja Rural). Charly Wegelius kicked across the line for third at four seconds back while Christian Meier was fifth at 16 seconds back in an excellent showing for UnitedHealthcare in the final day at Asturias.

Moreno shadowed Zaballa on the final climb and was able to fend off Zaballa’s string of attacks to sew up the overall crown in what’s a big win for his modest Caja Rural team that has big ambitions. Moreno secured a nine-second overall win to defending champion Zaballa in what should help the team’s hopes to earn a bid to race the Vuelta a España later this season.

Meier rode into the top-10 overall with eighth at 4:27 back in a solid week of racing across the steep and rainy mountains of northern Spain.
