The Mirror: Cav ready for Tour

Speaking to journalists in London before his departure for the Tour de France, Mark Cavendish says he’s in fighting shape for the season’s most important race. Despite not winning a stage at the Tour de Suisse, Cavendish says he’s never been in better condition for the French tour.

His ultimate goal is to win the green jersey for the first time: “This is the best form I’ve had for two years. I’m lean, I haven’t had any problems,” he said. “The organizers changed the situation because the fastest sprinter wasn’t winning the green jersey. The way they have done the points this year, it should come to me.”

Sponsor my cycling club: Report of cycling’s death greatly exaggerated!

Dear Mr. Armstrong:

I have to take issue with your quote“…but this [controversy], at a time when the sport has made significant changes, is going to kill it.” (VeloNews, July 2011)

Sorry, but, no don’t think so!

The sport of cycling is bigger than any individual champion and the myriad of accusers and alleged swirling accusations.

La Gazzetta dello Sport: Italian cycling’s ‘iron fist’

An iron fist? Even more than that. The Italian Cycling Federation (FCI), by means of a presidential resolution on 30 May, has closed the door on the Italian championships and the national team to all the athletes who have been penalised for doping. In fact, it was originally thought that the ban was valid for those who were penalised starting from summer 2008; in fact the first steps of the FCI date back to three years ago, after the scandals of that summer (above all, Riccò testing positive at the Tour of 2008). But no. “There is no time limit,” said the president Renato Di Rocco.
