The Tour Divide kicked off on June 10, with most of the original 83 riders choosing to take on the 2,745 miles going north to south. Twelve days into the trek and a thinned down field of riders is strung out between Montana and Colorado.
One of those riders is Jake Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick, of Boulder, Colorado, rolled out of Banff, Alberta, Canada on his custom Black Sheep Bike titanium singlespeed 29er, which was fitted with racks and other trick features built especially for his first-time riding the Tour Divide.
Unfortunately, word from the trail is that about 11 days into the multi-week adventure, Kirkpatrick had to abandon his effort due to being sick, cold and dehydrated.
