BOULDER CITY, Nev. (VN) — Finally, a high-end, pre-built, disc brake-compatible cyclocross wheel will hit shop floors this fall. Reynolds Assault CX checks all the boxes but one: it uses a light carbon rim in tubular or clincher, robust 24f/24r spoke lacing, and best of all a disc-compatible hub with 135mm spacing (if we’re going to do disc, let’s do it right).

Missing is a disc-specific rim, purpose-built without a brake track for more durability and decreased weight. You can still run rim brakes on the Assault CX should you so chose, and there is a version available without the disc hub.

The CX is built around Reynolds’ 46mm Assault rim, a proven, durable performer on the road. Weight is good but not great at 1,496g for the tubular and 1,716g for the clincher.

The hubs appear identical to those used on Reynold’s mountain bike wheels, and are compatible with six-bolt rotors. Price will be $1,850 for the set.
