The Schleck brothers will headline the 2012 Mallorca Challenge next February.
Race officials have confirmed that RadioShack-Nissan-Trek will bring the Schleck brothers for the five-day race on Mallorca now called the Iberostar Challenge Ciclista Mallorca.
Other riders likely to start include Chris Horner, Maxime Monfort, Andreas Kloden, Jens Voigt, Haimar Zubeldia and Daniele Bennati.
In addition to RadioShack-Nissan-Trek, several other WorldTour teams will be lining up for the popular early-season race on Spain’s Balearic islands.
Other big teams confirmed to start include Katusha, Rabobank, Omega Pharma-Quick-Step, Lotto-Belisol and Team Sky. Cofidis and Team NettApp, both Pro Continental, are also confirmed.
The news comes at a good time for the traditional opener of the Spanish calendar, which was struggling to meet its budget until Spanish hotelier Iberostar stepped in to take over as title sponsor for next year.
Scores of teams decamp on Mallorca for early-season training camps, taking advantage of the mild weather and low-traffic roads to put in some miles before taking part in the five-day Mallorca race.
The race is unusual in that it is a series of one-day races, though there is an unofficial prize for the rider who completes all five stages on the best time.
Next year’s race is set for February 5-9.
