The professional team Garmin-Cervélo announced Wednesday that the team has changed its name to Garmin-Barracuda for the 2012 season due to additional sponsorship from Barracuda Networks. Along with the announcement of the merger, Garmin-Barracuda unveiled the 2012 jersey, to debut at the Tour Down Under.
Barracuda Networks provides remote network security and data protection against network threats.
Both parties expressed their excitement with the merger on Wednesday. The Garmin team takes pride in being cutting-edge in all aspects of the sport, including technology and nutrition, and are leaders in promoting a clean sport. “We are always looking for partners who, like Garmin, share our passion and commitment to the best innovations in technology, and Barracuda Networks is a perfect fit,” said Jonathan Vaughters, CEO of Slipstream Sports and director of Team Garmin-Barracuda.
Matt Johnson, president of Slipstream Sports said, “from a business standpoint, working with Barracuda Networks makes great sense. The sponsorship provides Barracuda Networks with an unprecedented opportunity to showcase its technology leadership and expand its brand footprint around the globe.”
Executive vice president and CMO of Barracuda Networks, Michael Perone, agreed with the value of the merger for the Barracuda brand recognition. Cervélo will continue to supply the team’s bicycles for the next three years. The company expressed its gratitude to Slipstream for the opportunity to share the team name in 2011.
The team kits will be provided by Castelli and include the unique SanRemo Speedsuit and Gabba rain jacket, as well as some yet-unveiled pieces that will be revealed during the season. They still feature the Slipstream Sports argyle and Garmin logo, and have added the Barracuda logo.
