The two-flights-with-a-landing “5280’ Run-Up” is one of two staircases in Boulder’s Valmont Bike Park’s built exclusively for cyclocross racing. Its 20-foot center width is bounded by permanent railings allowing spectators to stand on the stairs and avoid damaging the hillside. Step dimensions were chosen specifically for ’cross racing, and one of the steps is at exactly one mile in altitude, hence the staircase’s name. Photo: Brad Kaminski
