MADRID, Spain (AFP) — Samuel Sánchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi) on Saturday won the sixth and penultimate stage of the Volta a Catalunya between Sant Fruitos de Bages and Badalona, breaking away in the last kilometer.

The Spanish rider crossed the line first ahead of Allan Davis (GreenEdge) and Julien Simon (Saur-Sojasun).

Michael Albasini (GreenEdge) remains the leader in the overall classification going into Sunday’s final stage.

Officials delayed Saturday’s stage for 38 minutes after a police motorcycle in charge of clearing the route was involved in a collision with a car at the 70km mark. Both the rider and the car driver were airlifted to hospital.
