The injury report continues to grow following a crash-marred Scheldeprijs Wednesday near Antwerp. Saxo Bank staff has reported that Aussie sprinter Jonathan Cantwell suffered a collapsed lung in a crash at the finish line involving a photographer.

“Johnny (Cantwell) had a very unfortunate fall, but after having rested in the bus we thought he was ok,” said sports director Nick Gates in a team statement. “But as he started complaining about increasing chest pain we called for an ambulance that brought him to the hospital where they reported that his lunge had collapsed.”

Cantwell, second on the National Racing Calendar in the U.S. in 2010, was originally believed to have suffered fractured ribs, but it appears as though this was not the case.

“Luckily, there are no fractures and under the circumstances he feels ok but he has to take a break from training and racing for an unknown period of time,” said Gates. “A very unfortunate outcome as he was in great shape.”

Photographer Taz Darling of Roleur Magazine is believed to have suffered collarbone and facial fractures, as well as a ruptured spleen in the incident.
