Several teams announced their Giro d’Italia rosters Tuesday, 11 days before the tour opens in Denmark. Matt Goss (GreenEdge), Thomas De Gendt (Vacansoleil-DCM) and a number of former U.S.-based riders highlight the early releases.

Goss will lead GreenEdge in the first-year Australian squad’s stage hunting exploits. Canadians Svein Tuft and Christian Meier, formerly fixtures in the North American peloton, will complement Goss. Tuft will make his third grand tour start, having also ridden the Giro in 2010, while Meier started the 2009 Vuelta a España, but withdrew before the 18th stage. GreenEdge will not contend for the overall classification, instead trying for individual stage wins in the team’s first grand tour.

In his first season at the top level of the sport, De Gendt was a surprise of the 2011 Tour de France. The Belgian finished fifth at L’Alpe d’Huez and third in the penultimate-stage time trial in Grenoble. He will join Matteo Carrara in the Vacansoleil squad.

Saxo Bank will take three riders with U.S. roots to the Giro in the Haedo brothers, Juan José and Sebastian, as well as David Tanner. The Haedos both rode domestically for the Colavita-turned-Jamis program, while Tanner spent two seasons in the U.S. with Fly V Australia and Rock Racing.

The 95th Giro d’Italia starts May 5 in Herning, Denmark.
