Bradley Wiggins won stage 1 at the Tour de Romandie Wednesday in a bunch sprint. With the victory, Wiggins took command of the general classification from Sky teammate Geraint Thomas.
Wiggins found himself in unfamiliar territory in the finale in La Chaux de Fonds, leading out a bunch of approximately 50 riders. Seeing an opportunity, the Brit opened his sprint early, appeared to think twice about it, before kicking to the line ahead of Lieuwe Westra (Vacansoleil-DCM).
The Sky captain entered the six-day WorldTour race as a favorite for the GC and after his 11th-place finish in Tuesday’s prologue and stage win on Wednesday, Wiggins sits in pole position early in the week.
