Jan Barta's Simplon Pavo
Jan Barta (NetApp) narrowly missed out on a stage win on Saturday after riding in the day's escape. The Czech rider escaped alone on the second-to-last climb, but was caught on the final climb up to Cervinia. He rides Simplon's Pavo frame in a size 56 with SRAM components and Mavic wheels. A steel-cage 2011 SRAM Red front derailleur handles shifts. SRAM PR man Ben Raby explained that most SRAM-sponsored teams have the new groups available, but some simply haven't had time to get everything back to the team service course and make the swap. Photo: Caley Fretz | VeloNews.com

Ever since Andy Schleck's chain-drop incident, chain guides have become near standard equipment in the pro peloton. They were certainly seen before, but now it is unusual to see a bike without one. Photo: Caley Fretz | VeloNews.com
