Goss targets pink jersey for team’s Giro debut — Sydney Morning Herald
With a new title sponsor on board, Orica-GreenEdge will start its first Giro d’Italia with the goal of getting Matthew Goss into the pink jersey in the first three days.
It will be up to Goss to put in a good opening prologue, then the team will help him shoot for the early stage sprints, and the time bonuses that come with them.
“The first objective for Gossy will be to have a pretty good [stage one time trial],” Orica-GreenEdge sport director Matt White said. “Realistically, if Matt is at around 20 seconds off the best time on Saturday, that will be a great start, particularly with the Giro where there are time bonuses at the finish – and not only time bonuses, but very generous ones.”
“The objective will be to leave Denmark with the leader’s jersey,” White added. “That means Gossy having a consistent prologue, him having a stage win or some very high placings in Denmark; then he will be very close to taking the pink jersey.”
Nuyens returns at Four Days of Dunkirk — Gazet Van Antwerpen
Two months after his horrific crash in the prologue of Paris-Nice, which saw him lose his classics season to a fractured hip, Saxo Bank’s Nick Nuyens is back to racing at the Four Days of Dunkirk.
“Today, my season begins for the second time,” he said. “I am curious what I can give. I worked hard, but I still don’t ride without pain. If I want to climb, it is accompanied by an uncomfortable feeling.”
